For pictures with a hanging wire and one hanging point hook the metal end of a tape measure under the center of the wire. If you want to hang a group of pictures for a gallery wall hang the center of the grouping at 57 inches. The 57 inch standard is based on the average eye height of an adult and is the rule used to determine how high to hang pictures in museums and galleries. When hanging a photo you ll first want to determine where you want the pictures to go.

Line up multiple frames from the center. Pull up until the wire is taut and measure up to the top of the frame. Mark a spot on the wall the same distance from the top step and the bottom step and run the string between these points. The best way to hang pictures will vary from room to room but there is an art to hanging art.

Next turn the picture over and measure from the top of the frame to the point the picture will hang. This technique is also useful for hanging pictures along a staircase. Generally larger and darker pictures look better placed toward the bottom of a grouping. First you have the challenge of placing objects on a wall in a pleasing way.

When hanging up a trio or collection of pictures of varying heights do not try to line up the frames from the bottom or the top.
